The US government will be providing 402 million USD grant assistance to Nepal government for a period of 5 years. Signing the assistance agreement on a ceremony held at Kathmandu dated 23rd September, two countries has agreed to use the grant assistance in Nepal’s development projects. The agreement was signed by Dr. Beth Duran, Mission director of USAID, Nepal and Mr. Madhu Krishna Marasini, Joint Secretary and Chief of International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division of the Ministry of Finance, Nepal.
The grant amount will be utilized to strengthen democratic process and good governance, economic growth, better healthcare and minimizing maternal and child health risks, Climate change agendas and food security. All of these agendas are prioritized sectors on 13th (2013-16) periodic plan and Development cooperation policy,2014 of Nepal government.
After signing the assistance agreement, Mr. Marasaini expressed his gratitude towards US government by saying “I would like to express my appreciation to the people and the government of the US for this assistance and also for their continued interest and support in the socio-economic development of Nepal”. The US government has been providing grants and assistance via USAID for Nepal in multidisciplinary social and governmental agendas. This particular grant assistance is also continuation towards strengthening US-Nepal cooperation.
The grant assistance will last till September 29th, 2019.
